Hit a Deer With My Wifes Ford Expedition

By

captain wayne rowlett ford expeditionI hit a deer on the way home from Destin the other night and came close to totaling my wife's Ford Expedition.

I slowed down from 65 to about 45 when i caught a couple of deer in my headlights on the side of the road. Then from out of nowhere a huge buck leaped right into my front left fender.

As you can see from the picture.  He did quite a bit of damage.  The adjuster came out the next day and the car is in the shop now being repaired.  Good thing we still had my pickup to drive.

Gosh Wayne that is so scary...As we continue to build the deer move closer and closer to the roadways..I am always amazed and grateful I have been able to steer clear of them.

Yikes.  At least you were in a big car.  I hit a deer once in a little honda civic - I knew I couldn't swerve, just had to hit it as head on as possible or we would have rolled.  We did okay, the deer died and we needed a new hood, but the car still ran.  Not fun.  Also, to make the story a little bit more interesting, I was rushing someone to the hospital from an hour away in the mountains who had just broken his arm...-Kasey

We have a house in the mountans and we really have to be careful driving at night.  Hitting a deer is like hitting a sold brick wall. Hope you are okay..that was quite an impact

A couple of my sibling living in Aspen Colorado were in an accident involving a deer and as Chris and Patty said when you hit a deer is like hitting a solid brick wall their cars were totaled.  I hope you are doing well.

Hi, Wayne:  You can surely count your blessings at that the damage being strictly automotive and not medical, as others have said.  Reminds me of an encounter a buddy had when we were in Maine for school.  The base in Winter Harbor, ME was in the middle of the Acadia National Park- a truly beautiful place.

The roads within the park, especially at night, were rather "parky".  Until my time up there, I'd never seen a porcupine that wasn't at the zoo- and I'd never seen a moose as big as the one my buddy hit anywhere.  He hit a moose that had to have been about 1,500 lbs..solid enough that he was able to hit it, total his Camaro and watch the moose walk off.  Fortunately, he was also safe.

Thanks for all the comments rainers. Nearly $7000.00 damage. It has be said, there are two types of drivers, those who have hit a deer and those who are going to. I just joined the ranks of those who have...
