So, How are You Going to Move the Pool Table?

By

Several years ago we purchased a seven foot slate pool table for our home.  When we bought it, the store had it delivered and assembled pretty much where it sits today.  Well, we recently decided that we wanted to sell it.  So I placed an ad on Craig's List.  In the ad I made mention that all buyers would be responsible for moving it (mostly because I had no idea how it would be done).  Today someone came and looked at it.  The first question he asked, "So, how do you move a pool table anyone?"  Like I said, I had no idea.

I help folks that are moving into and out of homes all the time.  Some have had pool table.  His question seemed like one that I should have an answer to or at least know where to direct him.  As a Realtor, I felt a bit embarrassed that I didn't know.  So, I did what everyone does, I asked Google.  Here's what I learned;

First and foremost it seems that moving a pool table requires several large and muscled men plus a truck that can handle considerable weight.  An average slate pool table weighs in between 800 and 1000 pounds!  So, once you have those resources available you are ready to go.  The table has to be taken apart and reassembled at its new location.  Apparently you can do it yourself and I found this blog post, How to Move a Pool Table that gives the step by step process.  I also called around and found that in the Oklahoma City metro, AJ Gill Billiard Supply 405-942-1848 has professionals that will do it for a fee.  Of course the fee varies depending where in the metro you are moving to or from and if there are any flights of stairs involved.  I'm told it takes about 45 minutes to take it apart and 2 hours to put it back together.  There is no need to re felt.

So, if you are moving to a new home in Oklahoma City, you can in fact take the pool table with you!  You just need some help doing it!  And if you are in the Oklahoma City metro and in the market for a pool table, give me a call!  I've got one that's available.

The comment that Rob made above is exactly the very same comment that he made on a post of mine a few minutes ago.. hmmmm....

Kristyn,  My father-in-law made a living moving people for years.. I've seen and heard stories of him moving everything from pool tables to a grand piano that had to be delivered upstairs..

We also bought a pool table for our home and and a couple of years ago decided it was time to sell it.  Some local folks bought it.

Pool tables are a pain to move.. got to have some godo equipment. I haven't looked at the video will have to check it out.
