Pictures Lie! Why mine is not on my business card.

To Picture or not To Picture your business card, Annette has written an interesting blog on this topic, what are your thoughts on this, does it matter, does it help in your business or is your image on your card just cause everyone else has an image on theirs?

Original content by Annette Sievert

How often have you had a business card in your hand with a photo of the owner on it and then meet the person him or herself and..... could not really make the connection.

Way too often, those business card pictures have little to nothing to do with reality. Either the person had a very savvy photographer who can edit the heck out of a picture ot the picture is aproximately 30 years old.

Lets face it, we are not getting prettier, maybe wiser, sometimes we age well, but the youthful image from the days of being new to this business xyz years ago does not really apply itself anymore.

So what to do? How often should one update the picture OR should we have one at all? Lost 20 pounds and look much different? Or actually gained 30? Had a beard and lots of hair and now only the beard is left?  Had smooth skin and now look like an aged apple?  Or had a little surgical enhancement? It's time!

And then there are pictures in the category  "what was he thinking?". Would you do business with a male of obviously under 25 years of age with way too much gel in his hair and mirrored sunglasses on in his picture??

Or how about the one who forgot to change clothes and wears the garden work turtle neck in flattering washed out plum against a dark gray background?

Our image is everywhere now but not so long ago business cards with images where the exception where they now are the rule.

The very least should be a groomed and timely image.

I opted not to have a photo on my card. This decision has actually brought me business, more often than not I get a friendly remark about my plain card. More so I feel much more confortable not having my face plastered everywhere. There is something like too much recognition, especially in a smaller town.

Hi Edward ~  Good thoughts here!  I am contemplating what I should do.  I have my picture (taken 2 years ago) on my card now and need to reorder.  Do I get another picture taken?  Is a 2 year old picture too old?  When I first had my picture taken my kids told me, "Mom, this picture is really pretty!  It doesn't look anything like you!"  Thanks guys!  Maybe my photographer did a few too many touch-ups!

all the best, all the time.

Karin,

Thank you for your comment, it is a decision that one has to wrestle with, but in the end whichever way you go I am sure you will be happy with it.

However cards without an image require less (image) maintenance....
