A blog is not JUST a lead generator! How to use your blog to build lasting relationships:
I like this post. It makes you think. I have people who ask me how to blog. I always say to start at the beginning of my blog and start reading. I post kernels along the way. The best " how to" stuff. And posts like this that make you mull the content over a few times in your mind. Enjoy!
After reading several more posts by some excellent authors about the kinds of blog posts that “make the phone ring,” I had a startling epiphany.
All of a sudden I realized that the type of blog content should be directed by the writer’s anticipated goal.
Before you decide WHAT to write about, you must decide WHAT you hope to achieve. For many, they want to use a blog as a lead generation tool. That’s perfectly fine, but your content MUST be directed towards that end.
However, a blog may also be a living, breather résumé of your work experience, or a Curriculum Vitae of your life. This kind of blog is used as relationship builder which affords a reader a chance to really get to know you and create a personal bond that could lead to a lasting relationship.
Since I generate plenty of leads anyway, I prefer the latter. Because that’s what works best for me.
I often use my blog “after the fact.” I refer leads generated from other sources to my blog as a relationship builder. My intention is once they read my blog they will come to realize that I am someone that is personable, knowledgeable, and well recognized not only in my community, but also nationally.
But if you need leads there’s nothing wrong with garnering all of the SEO benefit that you can. But you must present your posts accordingly.
To generate leads, use these post themes:
1) Market reports
2) Listings
3) Neighborhood information
4) Area promotionTo build relationships use these topics:
1) General real estate knowledge
2) Helpful tips
3) Your real estate experiences
4) Success stories
5) Life experiences
6) Examples of your creativityCan you mix both? Probably, but I like to keep my goal narrow and my quality high. I want to engage readers and bring them back time and time again.
And if they NEVER engage me for a real estate transaction, that is just fine with me. The fact that someone would read something that I wrote and benefit from it is enough of a reward for me!
Because my blog stands on its own as WHAT I DO!
