It is time to plan the 27th Annual Corvallis Community Christmas Parade. It will be on Friday, November 25th at 7:00 PM, the day after Thanksgiving. The parade will travel north on Fourth Street from Washington Street and end at Jackson St A celebration of songs and lights will follow the Parade at the Benton County Courthouse. The entry deadline is SaturdayNovember 19th. Your participation will help make this a great parade.

We are pleased to announce that the Grand Marshal for this year is Mr. Barte Starker. Barte has been an incredible community hero for many years. He has served on the Boys and Girls Club Board, the Hospital Foundation Board, the County Fair Foundation Board, the Aquarium Board, the Oregon Garden Board, and in Rotary. The theme for the parade is “Christmas Dreams On The Polar Express!” Use your imaginations to turn your floats into Polar Express trains headed to the North Pole as portrayed in the 1985 book by Chris Van Allsburg. Remember that this is a night parade and that lights are an important part of entries. Please remember to light up your Polar Express trains filled with Christmas Dreams with lots of Christmas lights.

As in previous years, we encourage the use of music of all types, including marching and riding bands, throughout the parade. Awards will be given in the following categories: Santa's Choice - Best Use of Theme, Mayor's Choice - Best Commercial Float, Judge's Choice - Best Use of Lights, Commissioner's Choice - Best County Entry, Corvallis Lions Club's Choice - Best Nonprofit/Civic Club entry, Downtown Corvallis Association's Choice - Best Use of Music. There will also be awards for the Best Non-Float Entry and the Best Entry with Animals.

If you want your entry judged, you must be in the lineup by 5:45 PM. The parade begins promptly at 7:00 PM. For safety considerations, please have very large entries such as trucks pulling trailers and especially semis in position by 5:30 PM. The line-up will be along Washington Street from Fourth to Eleventh Streets. You will be notified about your place in the line-up order the week of the parade.

We do ask strict adherence to the following rules:

NO SANTA ENTRIES - one Santa is enough and we already have one, plus Mrs. Santa.

Entries should have lights.

Floats with riders must have substantial rails to prevent riders from falling off.

NO CANDY (OR ANYTHING ELSE) CAN BE THROWN! Have walkers pass it out. This is a safety issue for the members of the audience.

Horse entries must have their own insurance and provide proof of such to the committee.

Entry fees are $25 for businesses and $15 for non-profits and individuals. Please make checks payable to Corvallis Lions Club. Your entry fee is used to offset parade expenses and help the parade continue to improve. This is not a fund-raiser. I hope your group will accept our invitation to join us on Friday, November 26th for the best Corvallis Community Christmas Parade ever! If you have any questions, feel free to call Marc Vomocil at 929-2477 or Joan Wessell at the Downtown Corvallis Association at 754-6624.
