Re-think Christmas Shopping in Green Country
I recently received an email regarding a refreshing attitude for the shopping we all dash around doing this season. Instead of supporting the Asian manufacturers why not make a point to support your local small business? Here's a few ideas:
Everyone -- yes EVERYONE gets their hair cut.
How about gift certificates from your local American hair salon or barber?
Gym membership? It's appropriate for all ages who are thinking about some health improvement.
Who wouldn't appreciate getting their car detailed? Small, American owned detail shops and car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or a book of gift certificates.
How many people couldn't use an oil change for their car, truck or motorcycle, done at a shop run by the American working guy?
Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom?
Mom would LOVE the services of a local cleaning lady for a day.
My computer could use a tune-up, and I KNOW I can find some young guy who is struggling to get his repair business up and running.
Many of us are used to giving gift certificates to restaurants. However, don't immediately go to that huge chain, look for the small bakery, the family owned diner, that lovely specialty cafe.
Of course, we often attend local craft and art shows, think outside the box and look for other unique services and crafts.
After 20+ years in the interior decorating business, I know people really think about sprucing up their homes prior to the holidays. But, how about giving mom a gift certificate for some new pillows in the living room? Or, really go big for a new set of curtains in the dining room? Maybe just a nice new set of custom place mats for the breakfast room?
There are so many ideas that come to mind which provide us with not only creative and fresh gift ideas, but also support the small businesses and craft persons in our community.
