There's a conversation going on over at Real Town on the home page in RealTown's Real Estate Community titled RE: reciprocal links with other agents .... banned i

It re- opens the debate about whether or not Real Estate Agents should be linking to each other. Some folks there have advocated it's fine to do it, but we'd lean toward being very careful. Read on here

Hey Gary. Under the right circumstances, I think you're right but Google has been incredibly vocal about how they're advancing their algorithm to evaluate links. Again, I'm not the expert here. I'm referring to Cutts own words in that interview. Rand, the interviewer, is a pretty advanced cat himself.

So, is the bottom line is that we shouldn't link just to link, but if we link to an article on another agent's site that adds to what we're discussing on ours, that's ok?

It would diffiicult to say how well Google's Algo' can evaluate the purpose of links, but his words suggest the answer is "yes." Cutts says, "we're striving to make sure consumers have a good search experience. Realtors linking back & forth, for instance Maine to California] may not serve that goal." The guy in FL we link to seems to be a real- life example.

What's more, if you review this [http://www.realestateblogsites.com/public/item/171876 ] you might see more evidence of where they've gone with the Algorithm... and where they're going.

I'd add an imediate example here: we all enjoy some 'link juice' when we we affiliate our independant web presence [sites and/ or blogs] with our Active Rain Community presence. So long as we're adding value in both places I'd imagine we're OK. But, who can speak for them ... it's hard to say.

There are Squidoo & MySpace, which suggest certain community- linking scenarios are seen as agressive. The content generated by those communities is de- emphasized to some degree in the Google index.... which lends even more strength to your point :-)
