Etiquette between us, Buyers and Sellers

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Ann Peterson Realty Services & PLB LENDING LLC, HOMETOWN MORTGAGE SPECIALISTS INC. NMLS#1170468

I don't know about you but I am finding that a majority of Realtors do not respond to fellow Realtors.  Whether it is for feedback from a showing on our listings (which is disrespectful to the Seller) or simply setting a showing on their property, or confirmation of receipt of an offer (which is disrespectful to the Buyer)  Yes, confirming receipt of an offer-time is NOT of the essence anymore.  Oh and then sometimes by the time many respond we are in a multiple offer situation.  Try explaining to a Buyer how that happens when they waited two days with no reply on receipt of the offer.

Maybe I am expecting too much as I know everyone is swamped with business but is simple courtesy too much to ask for.  These Realtors put a bad taste in the mouth of Buyers today and our profession and leave us trying to explain why they have this type of behavior.

Many Realtor's complain that we don't get paid enough or we are not appreciated by our clients, well maybe we need to look in the mirror and see if we are lacking in the service area.  We are a service-oriented profession and until every Realtor takes it seriously the general public never will.

Our Code of Ethics outlines our duties to Buyers, Sellers and fellow Realtors.

To those of you who take our profession seriously ...Thank you!

A little communication goes a long way and I do agree that we do not treat each other like we should!

Yes i totally agree that the communication needs to be clear and on time. It is just simple professionalism to acknowledge and respond at the right time to avoid any confusion. We should be more considerate in this profession as it is all based mainly on communication, which when gone wrong can be a trouble maker for all. Business ethics is important to all types of businesses. And a code of conduct must be followed. Thank you for bringing this up.

Hi Ann,

I totally agree with you.  We need more respect among peers.  With the multiple offer situation, I go ahead let my buyers know that even though we had our offer submitted first, the listing agent working for the seller will probably hold out for more offers.  Just the facts of the game.

Best of success to you this year!

Ann, I agree with you too and thanks for pointing out the Code of Ethics. Responding to our fellow Realtors® whether it is returning phone calls or acknowledging receipt of an offer is good business practice. Too busy is no excuse.
