New community center in Ellenberger Park?
Turns out that Ellenberger Park right here in Irvington is slated for an awesome community center. And by awesome we mean -- huge deck with fireplace, a game room, fitness center, small iceskating rink along with the existing swimming pool (which we sampled last summer by the way and LOVED!) Anyone looking for an Irvington house for sale will be pleased to know that our neighborhood is will be even more awesome in the not-too-distant future. We suspect this won't hurt the value of Irvington real estate either.
Andre Denman, a planner with Indy Parks and Rec, unveiled the plans to the Irvington Development Organization board on Monday. The Ellenberger center will be the jewel in Indy Parks's crown -- over $8 million, three times more than the city has ever spent on a community center. There are already 100 parking spots on the property. They're adding another 80 under the building itself!
Of course these things don't magically appear overnight. Andre said it's a 3-5 year project and lots of fundraising needs to happen, of course. But wow. We are thrilled that Irvington will be home to this state-of-the-art community center. Can't wait!
