Talk About Stress!
We often talk about stress in the real estate business, and we do have quite a bit of it. But I don't think it compares to the stress that the UConn Women's Basketball Team and its coaches were under last night when they played the University of Kentucky in the regional championships in Kingston RI.
UConn won, 80-65, but it could have turned at any time. The refs were brutal, with both teams hitting the team limit of 10 in the first half and with Kentucky going way over the limit in the second half and UConn at 8. The crowd was about to explode with massive coronaries (I'm not sure that comes across on television).
How does anyone play under that much pressure? The coaches to be sure had to contain themselves at some of the calls, but how did the players continue to play with such assurance and grit? The crowd yelled when players missed free throws, but I wonder how many, if any, of them could play under such pressure. I don't know how these young women do it. My arms are shaking just thinking about it. Yet, kerplunk, kerplunk, the shots went it.
The best moment was just before half time with 2.1 seconds on the clock when Tiffany Hayes threw the ball from the end to Kelly Faris who shot the basket before the buzzer to take the lead. How does anyone do that? That's working under pressure.
So the next time I think I want to complain about the stress of the business, I will tell myself that at least I am not on the free throw line with everyone watching.
Congratulations, UConn! You are some amazing young women! All the best in the final four!
