St George Island HouseWhen I want to unwind, relax, recharge or refresh, I head to a place that's only 1 hour and 45 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Silver Spring.  Even thought this place is in still Maryland and not so far away, it is like a different country or world.

The place I slip away to for a few days is on St.George Island in
St Mary's County, Maryland.  The house I visit is an old 1900's farmhouse on the waterfront of the St Mary's River. Life is peaceful, simple and unpretensious here.  There is no rush hour.  The people are friendly and laid way way back.  You don't have to worry
about what to wear, a T shirt, shorts and flip flops are acceptable all the time.

The house has been in my family and used as a summer getaway for many years. There is a pier to while away the day sunning yourself (while reading a trashy novel WOW - "50 Shades of Grey" might be good reading this summer!), fishing, tying a Pier and View from House in St George Islandchicken neck to a string, hanging it off the dock to catch Maryland blue crabs (the best tasting crabs in the world, BTW) or just listening to the waves lap against the shore.  They say that being near water is the best way to clear your head and relax your mind.

In the afternoon or evening we head over to Chiefs Bar with attached Grocery Store, where you can have a few beers with the locals and find out all the gossip or more gossip than you ever wanted to know about the small communties of Tall Timbers, Piney Point and "The Island".  You can have dinner at Chiefs or go into the attached grocery store and get a stuffed ham sandwich (their specialty).

I have a plan in place to run my real estate practice while I am away.  I have several people that I trust to take care of my clients while I am gone, if needed a property can be shown or a contract presented on a listing. I have an auto-email listing search set up for my buyer and seller clients to keep them updated on properties. I can recieve and send emails and check voicemail on any computer while I'm gone. Also having an "Authentisign" account is an amazing help, if I need to write a contract or ties up loose ends on the details of one.

The home looks so pretty and restful. The pier and water make me wish I could be there. You are fortunate to have a place like this to spend your lazy days of summer. I am afraid I envy you. Hope you get to enjoy it a lot this summer.
