I don't know why I make my wife crazy

I'm notorious for making fun of my mother-in-law, and with good reason, but the truth is that she is a carbon copy of me.  She wants me to speak at her funeral (which will be a long way off, I trust, assuming I don't beat her there), and I told her I would, but with all of the material I've accumulated on her over the years it will have to be a series.

One of the things that makes me crazy about her is her propensity to over-schedule herself.  If she has a meeting on one side of town at 9:15 am and a client calls at 8:45 and asks to see a house on the other side of town she will say, "Sure, I've got time."  No she doesn't, but she always seems to make things work out.  That's the same thing that makes my wife crazy about me.  I can see my father-in-law shaking his head in agreement as I tell this story about Betty, and Buffy is shaking her head about me. 

Today was one of those typical days.  I left the house with a definite plan for the day.  I hadn't made it to the Post Office (five minutes away) before my day was upside down.  I diverted my path to the county inspections office and picked up three electrical permits.

I realized, "Oh, while I'm in the county office building, why don't I check to see if there is a perc test on a lot I have for sale?  It will only take a few minutes, right?" A half hour later, I'm standing at the counter texting an agent whose daughter wants my lot.  I'm telling him it has an approved perc and she writes a contract and it's accepted.  So far, nothing on my schedule has happened.

I'm off to the printer to pick up invoices for the electrical company.  That gets me off course and distracted and I end up at the grocery store picking up snacks for the office.  No problem.  I still have time to get everything done.  Because I was at the grocery store, I took a different path to my office.  On the way, I saw a car for sale.  My younger son needs a car and his mother wants her car back.  My mind says, "Keep going.  You don't have time for this."  I pass the car, and a hundred yards later I turn around and go back.

After chatting with the owner, my son, the insurance company and my wife - my son has his own car.  No problem.  I've still got time to get everything done.  On the way to the office, I remember that I have a major commercial electrical service changeover first thing in the morning.  I should probably make sure the equipment I ordered is there and is correct.  So, I divert to the electrical supplier. 

While there, I remember I have a property that needs to have the contract submitted to the bank.  No problem.  I stop by the office and upload it.  Then I remember, my dryer isn't working, and since I don't have time to repair it I'll just grab one we have in storage and take it home.

While traveling home with the dryer, my attorney calls and asks if my closing clients (for next week) can run by his office and sign their deed.  Sure, I can work that out.  I call, text and email my clients, and a hour ago I get a confirmation that they signed their portion of the closing and everything is on schedule for next week. 

Now, I'm washing clothes which I can now dry.  I'm going over the deals that were ratified today.  I'm making a schedule for tomorrow that I will more than likely ignore for the most part.  I'm reading the funny emails from clients who made it across the finish line today.  I'm talking to a contractor who accepted our bid.  I'm responding to emails asking for electrical services.  I'm sending documents to an agent who is buying a piece of property I'm selling.  I'm reviewing my appointments for the next two weeks, and I'm wondering why I drive my wife crazy.  I don't get it.
