You just can't BEAT the Eastlake area of Palm Harbor- (it's EAST of Lake Tarpon)! Why can't it be BEAT? Well, for the 9th straight year, Eastlake high school just hosted one of the best high school marching band competitions for miles around- the Eastlake Classic Invitational. 18 high schools gathered their marching bands for a top-notch competition. Bands came from all over Florida, the weather was perfect, and for us, the view was perfect! The afternoon started at 4pm following many hours of parent and volunteer preparation in the months weeks and days before. The second band o take the field was Calvary Christian High School - the very first competition the school had ever entered with the marching band- they went home delighted, winning 2nd place in their class- Congratulations!! The judges are the top in their fields, and are flown in from all over the USA and Canada specifically to give feedback and scores to the participants. Many of these judges are regulars at our show, braving the heat and sun in the press box to be with us.   many great performances were given, with Countryside High School, Clearwater high school, River Ridge, Wiregrass, Seminole High school and many more bringing busloads of students, instruments, props, parents and volunteers to the Eastlake campus. Tarpon Spring has a fantastic band program, with their performance winning the class. Always a delight to watch, they are a top band nationally.   Martin and I were in our usual spot in the press-box, as tabulators, entering and protecting the results received from the judges until the end of the show. Real estate isn't all about houses- it's all about community, about the people that live there, and the lives that are lived and inter-twinned. This is why we love our community, and what goes on here. We love doing this- we don't have any students in high school this year, as three of our four children have graduated, knowing the joy of being State Champions at Eastlake High. Next year we'll be back- possibly with our freshman on the field. Bring it ON!
