Now that Amendment 1 has been passed Florida counties are crying poor mouth with hugely exagerate short falls that will effect county spending for years to come. And the question most Floridians are asking, Is it really worth it to save a couple of dollars a year? I guess it all depends on who you ask.

If you ask the average state worker they will tell you how hard it will be to trim the fat and have enough money to run this great state we call home. If you ask me it is more about their future pay raises or the lack there of. Which if I were in their shoes, I would be concerned about my bottom line too. But, We as Floridians have to look at the big picture and realize that financially our state and its residents are in bad shape and are in need of a moral boost to jump start our states economy.

In the short term, Amendment 1 will be the boost putting Floridians in motion to better economic times. Even as small as the savings will be for each home owner its positive impact will be the grease on Florida's wheels of progress. Now Seniors that were afraid to move out of their homes for the fear of losing their Save Our Homes value now can afford to down size to a more manageable and affordable property, home owners will have a few extra dollars in their pockets in time when all other cost are going up, and a lot of new home buyers will be able to afford the dream of home ownership. Besides the fact that Plumbers, Electricians, Realtors, Loan Officers, Title Agents and the entire housing work force will be back to work making a living and creating revenue that the state has been missing out on for the last two years.

So, Is this Amendment good for our states future in the long run? Definitely not, But it is good for right now. Our nation as a whole is counting on states like Florida to show signs of a recovery. In the future our legislators will have to come up with a long term solution to balance the states spending. Who knows maybe Indian gaming will save the day, I guess only time will tell.
