Heceta Head Lighthouse on the Oregon Coast

One of my favorite places in all of Oregon is Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint, north of Florence and near the Sea Lion Caves. We'll frequently stop here with visitors and then have a picnic lunch in the day use park at the mouth of Cape Creek. After lunch, we'll take the short hike up to Heceta Head Lighthouse for a tour. Many people say that this is the most photographed lighthouse on the West Coast.

The old lighthouse keeper's home is now a bed and breakfast, complete with a ghost story of its own. The open grassy area nearby is a popular place for weddings in the summer.

That's a spectacular panoramic scene. The vivid yellow of the flowers in the foreground acts as a nice accent.

Myrl: The yellow flowers are only in bloom for a short time during the year, but they made a nice foreground to frame the picture with. I still remember stopping at this spot on a drive from California to Washington many years ago, not knowing that I'd end up living in the same county as this place a few years later.

Kristin: Many bridal parties stay in the bed-and-breakfast during the summer in preparation for a wedding on the lawn overlooking the ocean. It's good to know that the ghost is friendly and not malicious. You'll have to visit and discover if the ghost is real for yourself.

Eric: This is just one scenic spot of many along the Oregon Coast from the California border to the Washington state line. I'm a Phoenix, AZ native who left the desert Southwest for the verdant Pacific Northwest. I can't imagine living anywhere else now.

Patricia: No matter where I travel, I'm always happy to return to Eugene and Lane County. The people are friendly and the geography is varied and visually pleasing.

Thank you for posting! I love the lighthouse, and have climbed up the hill a number of times. Too bad the photo is so small of the lighthouse, it is really pretty quaint.

I'll write a blog post about the Heceta Head Lighthouse itself and include a picture that shows the lighthouse itself. The building is still undergoing renovation, so the picture will show the lighthouse before it got spruced up. It shines the most powerful light on the entire Oregon Coast and I've climbed its steps many times to take the lighthouse tour.
