If you live in a warm area, southern florida, arizona, etc or cold, Illinois, midwest, etc...Do you see buyers more if its warmer weather all the time or and if so, why are warmer weather states not doing so well according to the market?   I live in Missouri, so it's cold this time of year, and I hear buyers stating that they are waiting to "spring"  My question is...Does weather affect buyers or sellers????

Nancy, I feel the weather does effect the buyers thought process. Here in Michigan our busy season was always in the spring. When the sunshines people are more positive, of course we aren't seeing much sun these days in Michigan. Argh.

Typically, we have sellers waiting for spring as their properties look better.   We've had a pretty mild winter this year (so far) and we have been busy.

I'm in what is considered a second home or retirement market.  It seems that people start thinking "lake homes" when the boat shows start.

I'm from Michigan and I pick up and do more business in the colder months.

Nancy,

The average Buyer to me certainly likes the warmer times.....provided their circumstances allow.

The folks up North are cuddled up next to their fireplaces keeping warm.  I think weather up north affects sellers, and you don't see as many homes up there selling in the freezing wintertime.  Consequently, we don't get these folks coming down South to live when it's cold up there ... except for the snowbirds.  Many of the sellers have to sell something before they buy, that's why I think the weather primarily affects the sellers.
