I HATE MY PHONE! I NEED HELP CHOOSING A NEW ONE!

By

My battery is almost dead (in my Cingular 8525) and after about an hour on the phone I was told by AT&T (formerly Cingular) that they do not have any battery replacements in the foreseeable future in the entire country!  So it looks like even though my phone is one year old, I will have to buy a new one!  I have had many other issues with my Cingular 8525 as well like it freezing up, the screen going blank white, and I hate that there is not a keyboard and the entire phone is a touch screen!  I'm past being angry about it (even though I was one week over my 1 year warranty and there is absolutely nothing that AT&T was willing to do except allow me to qualify for the 2 year upgrade even though I have one year left on my contract!  But I guess it's the least they could do since I have been a customer of theirs for over 9 years now), but wanted to know what phones you all use and what you would recommend me to purchase?

I am strongly considering purchasing the TREO/palm 750, so if you have a TREO already or have had one in the past, I would appreciate hearing your comments on it!  Whatever phone I purchase absolutely MUST HAVE instant email notifications, internet access, and be available to be used as a modem for my lap top.  I would also prefer it to have a speaker phone/hands free option as well as conference calling.

If you are too busy to respond, I understand, I'm just looking for some friendly advice because the people at the store only care about pushing one thing, the MOST EXPENSIVE phone!

THANKS TO ALL OF MY AR COMRADS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR FEEDBACK...

Michael.  I had a TREO that was fine for checking email and pulling stuff up on MRIS.  But as a phone, it totaly sucked.

By the way, you can probably find a battery at Radio Shack or even on E-Bay.

My razor is nearing death as well-actually the battery is almost shot from overuse-overall it was a great phone with the integration of texting...

I would also check ebay for a new batterey.  I have the treo 755p with verizon.  Like the phone very much, but it does have it's quirkiness.  This is a new phone and it will sometimes just reboot itself or get stuck.  The things I really like about the treo, better web browsing than the blackberry I had, integrated in with my lockbox key, and my contacts are all integrated into the phone.

The rep here at US Cellular in Coralville, Iowa actually let me have a few 'recycled phone' batteries for free-and knows I will be buying my new phone from him in the next month-so actually I need phone suggestions as well. I do a little texting and would like access to the internet via phone, but won't activate right away-and may never to keep my sanity. The new RAZR? Blackberry? Motorola? Help me. I want reliable, sleek and long battary-the Lexus of phones....

I have hear good things about the Motorola-the Q is a pretty thin phone, right? -with Internet access?

For those you have the Internet on their phone, do you like it/use it-is it helpful to your business OR does it drive you crazy since your on the Internet all the time at work?

I don't use the internet much at all on my phone unless it is to access our MLS when I am in the field with clients who have a question about a particular home that I may not otherwise know the answers to.

And Thanks for your feedback on the TREO 755 Carolyn

Many agents in my office use a Treo because it also allows instant access to lockboxes, but I prefer the BlackBerry. Plus, I have longer finger nails, so using a touch screen isn't user friendly for me. I prefer buttons. I use my BB when I travel, especially when I need laptop access in a place without WiFi -- or at airports, where many will charge you for access. I have downloaded three email accounts to my BB and all my accounts are transferable from Outlook.

I hear Verizon now has unlimited calling and free text messaging for about $140 a month, but I stick with TMobile and its 3,000 minutes regional plan. With BB add-on, it's about $70 a month. Even with roaming for traveling, it's still cheaper than Verizon, but then I rarely come close to 2500 minutes a month.

The BlackBerry 8700g is available for around $99 now. It was $300 last year. But the BB Curve is newer, so the price is back up -- but it also has a camera feature, which the 8700 doesn't.

An associate in my office has broken his Treo by dropping it. I've literally flung my BlackBerry across the room, and occasionally I drop it when fumbling to retrieve it from its holster getting in or out of my car. Hasn't done any damage to it all. It's a pretty sturdy device.

I love love love my Treo. The only time I have gotten a new one is when I have chosen to upgrade to one with more features. I can check my email and recieve PDFs, search the web, get the MLS info, etc. It is hard to drive with, but that can be good and bad. You have to be hands free. Texting is great and it holds the conversation in one im box. It is GREAT!!!

I love my Blackberry Pearl.  It is very sleek and has all the functionality that I need including GPS and camera, and like Elizabeth, I have dropped, and flung this more than a few times and it still work with no problem.  I even accidentally dropped it on a puddle one rainy day.  It got wet but after a few dry up - it was back to normal.

Well I am definitely in between the Blackberry and Treo now after hearing how versatile the BB is.  I am pretty hard on my phones and they do definitely drop "occassionally."  But, I have taken great care of my 8525, so I'm still not sure.

Thanks for ALL of your feedback and I look forward to hearing from more of you as I have not quite yet made up my mind????

MICHAEL - I've been looking into this as well.  The research that I've done on the Treo shows that there is a lot of quirkiness to it, and that it locks up at times.  I know that many agents choose this because of lockboxes, but around here, we use Sentrilock boxes, so this isn't a factor.  From what I've read, I'm leaning towards Blackberry, but I'll keep tabs on the responses in here for more feedback.

Thanks for all of the input. I have heard good thing about Blackberry Pearl-also we use Sentrilock-so don't need a trio for that. Thanks again!
