New class being developed about professionalism

By
Managing Real Estate Broker with Full Circle Property Management

I am beginning work on a new college class to add to our associate degree program in real estate at Columbus State (in Ohio) about Professionalism and Realtor Etiquette, and could use your help.

This is a 3 credit hour class and if we get responses, will offer it to our degree seeking students, many who will be agents and brokers in the next 2 years. The class will cover how to deal with agents, buyers, sellers, etc. It will also teach about dealing with clients from different cultures and backgrounds. It will also deal with ethics and professional standards.

Have any sources, books, or info that you have come across related to this? Any topics you think would be good for new agents? Any web sites, films, materials that you have come across that would be good as pass-outs?

Your help, as always, is appreciated.

That will be a great class.  In this market I would like to see a class in how to remain professional when we have to deal with unreasonable sellers or unethical Agents.  People do strange things in a slow market.

Great class idea.  See my blog entry "Keep It Truthful Please" as an example of what not to do.  I hope you will help to produce ethical professional agents for the future.

I think Gary above touched on it reacting to unreasonalbe clients.  But also simple good business practices are a main stay about professionalism.  Being available during 9-5, returning calls promptly, doing what you say,  Being on time for an appointment, presenting a professional appearance, not having inappropriate voice messages, blogs, business cards.

Talking about professionlism, credibility, and character, what can you say if an agent/ realtor stole/ fraud a considerable amount of money even if it happen years ago. And not wanting to pay it ,  now a realtor and consider her self a successful and doing  a lot of good things. Will it has an affect on the job she is doing? Wii other people around her will be affected to?  Lyn Nemes --- Washington

Great idea Dennis and I wish you much success. I have read so much good information here, but I don't have a method of retrieving it by subject. You probably don't either, but I have seen plenty of 'don't do the following' as people share their experiences. Maybe there is a group out there.
