For the Week Ending April 25, 2014

Please enjoy this quick update on what’s happening this week in the housing and financial markets.

First quarter economic reports are causing many analysts to lower expectations for 2014. Still, performance is expected to have improved with the weather.

Some believe the stock market could be close to setting new all-time highs. Rising stock markets can mean lower bond prices and higher interest rates.

This week’s jobless claims offer mixed news. The durable goods report is very positive. Overall balance likely keeps rates relatively stable, but markets can be fickle.

March new home sales were significantly lower than expected. The good news is a resulting increase in inventory and more stable market.

Existing home sales are down from last year, but flat from month-to-month. Price increases are slowing but still rising overall.

Those rising prices are good for homeowners, but in some markets, affordability issues are starting to keep some buyers away.

The boy asked his mother for 20 bucks. “Does it look like I’m made of money?” she asked. “Well,” replied her son, “isn’t that what M.O.M. stands for?”
