Swimming Pool Safety - Is Your Swimming Pool Child Safe?

Does your home have swimming pool security?

Have you ever looked away for just moment and lost track of your child?  Just 30 seconds is all it can take for slight panic to set in until you have a visual on your child again!
Does your pool home have swimming pool security?  The experts say that multiple levels of security are needed for swimming pools because only one device cannot  provide all of the protection needed.

Swimming Pool Protection Devices.

Some of the more popular swimming pool protection devices that I see in use around Eustis, Mount Dora, Tavares, Clermont, and Lake County FL, are;

  • Safety Fences - Safety fences are installed around the perimeter of the pool areas making the pool only accessible if one of the security panels are open for pool access.  Safety fences should have safety latches to prevent small children from entering the pool area.
  • Door Alarms - Door alarms with a loud siren should be installed on all doors that open out to the pool area.
  • Underwater Motion Detectors - Most motion detectors are for the surface of the pool only.  Most swimming pool safety experts recommend having underwater detectors because of false alarms caused by wind ripples setting off the alarm.
  • Pool Covers - Pool covers should be fitted so that they cover beyond the edge of the pool.
  • I-Phone App - With the advance in technology there are cell phone apps on the market that can detect when a child is underwater and needing help.  These apps currently require the child to wear a detector via either a wrist or head band.  I recommend checking out your local app store for more information on this new technology.
Here in Central Florida our pools are open year round.  Make them safe and enjoy having family and friends over for those summer family get together's!

Even with all of the above listed protection devices, always keep an eye on children and pets when around a pool or any type of water.

Jimmy, I have a good friend whose daughter died in their pool. The pool man left the lock unlatched after cleaning and she went out. My friend has dedicated her life to teaching and lecturing about pools and children. Good blog post.

Jimmy Williams (352) 874-2354 this is really important information!  I am in Missouri so the ratio of houses with pools is very slim.  I am going to pass this information on to my cousins that live in Florida!  All of them have pools!

Jimmy, pool safety is very important especially here in Florida where so many people have pools.  It's always better to be safe than sorry!

Where I live, a pool is in practically everyone's backyard.  It still amazes me how many pool deaths there are each year.  It only takes a couple of seconds for someone to drown unnoticed.  Your safety tips are important.  Thank you for sharing.
