"Must be nice!"
That's Linda. She works at our on-site office in the Club House in my community.
"Hi Linda! How are you?" I responded. I really do like Linda.
"I'm great! You know - working. Some of us have to make a living!" She said with a big smile and a little chuckle. She used to sell real estate, and she makes it a point to let me know anytime she catches me not actively working with clients.
I laughed with her, and I headed home. I held back a few comments, and focused on my little high I was experiencing from my workout. I thought to myself, "Hey, I put a suit on this morning!"... yeah, a bathing suit.
I just got out of my pool in Sunny Florida. I swam my 20 laps, and I felt great. It was a light workout to get my Wednesday started. Directly to the pool - 20 laps - directly home to shower, and then into a suit for the work day as a Real Estate Agent.
Work... everyone's got their own definition of the word.
Work, defined, is an activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result.
I 'work' at my business 6 days a week. I take Tuesday afternoons and Wednesday mornings off. It is 10:45 on Weds. morning - it's my morning off, and what was I doing? I was working on my physical self. Would you say working on ourselves - physically and mentally - is just as important as working on our business? I would. They go hand in hand.
Physically - whether we play a sport, go for a walk or run, hit the gym, or in my case, swimming on my 'morning off' - we need to keep our bodies moving and active.
Mentally - yoga, learning, reading, practicing our scripts or Listing Presentations (I'm a newer agent so my skill set still needs daily development!), positive affirmations, etc... for me, this is the most important part of my non-work 'work' - I work on myself mentally 7 days a week. In a business as full of rejection as ours, I find that this is critical.
So here's a thought for today: Schedule some time away from your desk, away from your customers. Make sure you are working on yourself a bit. I know most of us do this already. It reflects in our business. For me, it's imperative to my long-term success and happiness in business, and in life!
That's enough from me. Time to get to work.
