Tips to Staying Safe When Selling Your Home in Gainesville.  When it comes time for you to put your home on the market, you need to be prepared for the fact that you’ll be opening up your home to a new world of strangers.  Most buyers who tour your home are actually interested in purchasing your Gainesville real estate, but there have been incidents where people were “not” buyers and just scammers and criminals. Let’s take every precaution to keep you and your home safe.

Safety Tips for Gainesville Home SellersLook over these quick tips below to make sure you and your home are safe and protected:

  1. Hire a licensed, reputable agent.  Check with the Florida Department of Business Professional Regulation to make sure he or she is properly licensed.  In Florida, here is where to check: https://www.myfloridalicense.com/wl11.asp
  2. Double-check the lockbox.  Your listing agent/Realtor® will have procedures in place to make sure your lockbox is properly installed, well secured and that only approved people can access the keys. Electronic lockboxes are BEST, combination lockboxes are not the most secure for your home.  Our electronic Supra™ Lockboxes are electronically controlled and only accessible by agents in good standing. These boxes provide detailed history of which agent accessed your home with date & time.
  3. Set up a showing agreement and showing procedures with your agent.   Only allow people to view your home when a real estate agent is present.  Never allow any one to enter your home without an agent. If a person contacts you directly or knocks on your door, be sure to inform them that they must contact your Gainesville real estate agent to schedule an appointment.
  4. Secure your valuables. When buyers come to look at your home, they are likely to open drawers and closets. Make sure your money, jewelry, electronic devices, guns, financial documents and anything else are well secured.

As long as you use common sense and follow these safety tips, you will not have to worry about the visitors that come your home. Be Safe. Be Smart!
