Under all is the land. As a young boy growing up in rural Nova Scotia I learned early in life how important the land we worked and owned was to our family's survival and prosperity.
I started working on my uncles farm when I was 11 years old raising hogs, milking cows and looking after everything a mixed farm had to offer. Our barn burnt the year I turned 13 and I left school for the winter to yard logs to build a new barn. We ended up buying a dairy farm and I milked cows night and morning for two years.
As an adult I drove a truck for 3 years, spent 4 years in the military, worked in Northern Canada as an under ground miner and was a construction labourer then carpenter. Then almost 40 years ago I obtained my real estate license. I became a licensed real estate broker, mortgage broker and appraiser in the province of Nova Scotia Canada.
While building my business to 7 offices and 100 employees and sales people and making Profit magazine's fastest growing companies list i started an insurance agency, owned a restaurant, a service station and started a 24 hour towing business and salvage yard. I partnered with a friend and we operated a land clearing business. During all this I invested in and bought and sold real estate.
Through it all every day 7 days a week I listed and sold real estate for most of the year. I tell people when I was 25 years old I knew everything and all you had to do was ask me and I would tell you. Now after 40 years in business I know how little I knew back then and that it took me almost 40 years to learn what I didn't know. I tell them I have 40 years of mistakes under my belt and overcoming those mistakes.
The one thing I do know is Nova Scotia real estate. Thousands of transactions listing and selling plus thousands of appraisals along with all the financing we have helped our customers arrange has given me an understanding of the real estate business that few others would have experienced.
Who would you rather represent you in your next transaction ? Someone with proven experience or someone who isn't as experienced ? Think about it. You have seen lots of market ups and down, industry changes. Been listing, peddling real estate 35 years. It is a heck of a ride, sport, passion, some say addiction. Real estate is a jealous master.

So true Andrew. I used to be a pretty good ball player in my younger years. I tell people I got into the real estate business and it's become the longest game of ball I ever pitched. Love the business and people but hate the bureauacracy we have to deal with today. Being in Maine you are almost a bluenoser ! All the best.
