# of First Time Tennessee Real Esate Exam Takers Plunges Drastically

I saw an amazing chart and thought you might like to see it. I found it in the Tennessee Real Estate News-Journal published by The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance Volume 16 / Number 3 dated Spring 2008 which was provided to them by H. Brant Huisman, V.P. of Marketing for the D&D School fo Real Estate.

I wanted to copy it into this blog post but, I then realized I didn't have premission to "reprint" it. however, its a timeline depicting both State and National First time Real Estate Exam Takers per Month from August of 04 to January of 08. What caught my attention was the steep declines in 07 and 08. Not that I didn't expect it to be less due to the slowing market however, it made me wonder how many people actually sign up to be real estate professionals as a passion vs. the chasing of what they think is going to be a "quick" get rich pipe dream. I look at this chart and now I understand why I come across so many agents whom I feel don't take real estate serious enough to be called professionals.

Test taking was at an all out frenzy in August of 06 with approximately 810 test takers a month. As of January of 08 it has fallen to approximately 240 a month. I would like to see this compared to how many existing Realtors that got liscensed in this time fram are now actually practicing today as their only source of income.

I'm not surprised.  In Florida, the number of newbies has similarly plunged & brokerages are after experienced agents.  I think having fewer licensees is actually good for the industry--less competition & more committed & experienced practitioners.

The number of Notary Signing Agents in California both renewing and initiating their notary commissions has drastically fallen too...

I'm good with that...more opportunities for Professionals who know what they are doing.  Like ME!

Jesse, I would like to see the ratio also.  I got into the mortgage business in the last few years because, I like the industry.  I wish I could have gotten into it sooner but I am happy to be here now.

The less the better!  Let the market "weed out" the weak.
