Wasn’t the Summer Short?

“Wasn’t the Summer Short?”

That’s a question asked by an old song. It did fly by, didn’t it? Here in the Jersey City/Hoboken area, it’s time to put away the swimsuits, dig out sweaters and backpacks, and go back to school for a lot of kids. Some people are off to college, and some are beginning new careers. Some, who are considering settling in our town, might like to know what people do here in the waning days of Summer and early days (and nights) of Autumn.

One of the wonderful aspects of this season is that it is harvest time. That means the farmers are out there selling fresh fruits, vegetables and other wonderful items. Here is a link to information about the farmers’ markets in the area. The vendors have natural soaps, homemade artifacts and home goods. Patronizing these markets gives you the added satisfaction of knowing that most of the money you spend is with local owners. That’s great for the economy.

Once you’ve done your marketing, you can pack a picnic and head for a concert. There are lots of live music performances to attend in the area. Everything from classical, to rock concerts, to jazz fests. Bluegrass is represented, as well as Rhythm and Blues. There’s an Irish Festival coming up, too, as well as other ethnic festivals. The Ukrainians are having one, and so are the Puerto Ricans. It’s a good way to learn about other cultures.

People are cleaning out their closets and taking their gently used items to sell at the various flea markets. You can pick up some bargains there, perhaps to decorate your new condo. Selling some of your castoffs is a possibility, also.

I haven’t even touched on the many art events that are coming. If you like to participate, there are hands-on projects to enter. Art in all forms is represented, including some incredible photographic displays. Here is a link to just one of the many sources for finding events. Whatever your interests, you can keep yourself busy and entertained in the Hudson County area.

How will you be making the transition from Summer to Autumn?

Any city that has farmers markets is a great place in my mind. Enjoy the fall colors, I can't wait to leave Las Vegas and spent some time back in Ohio & Chicago to catch some fall colors and activites. Have a great week!
