Are you ready for Fall?  Here are 10 Fall maintenance tips to prepare for that other season that follows.  (Notice I didn't say the name of that other season!)

Don't forget to keep the bird feeders full as many birds will begin their southern migration soon.  Since I live near Lake Erie I took down my hummingbird feeders as they have headed south already.

10 Fall Home Maintenance Tips to Prepare Your Home for Winter

Fall is just a few days away and many parts of the country are already experiencing cold nights and cool days. The weather serves as a reminder that it is time to prepare for winter by getting household maintenance items completed and ready for winter.

These 10 Fall Maintenance Tips will get you on your way to a safer and warmer fall and winter seasons.

  • Check windows and doors for missing caulk and weatherstripping.
  • Trim low branches and those close to the house.
  • Clean gutters and make sure they are securely attached to house. Direct downspouts away from drives and walkways so they will not ice over and create a hazard.
  • Check your roof to make certain shingles are laying flat and there are no missing shingles.
  • It's time to schedule winterization on irrigation systems. Though you still may have a few weeks, contractors will be scheduling into the future and they get very busy.
  • Disconnect garden hoses so water will not freeze in the outside faucet line.
  • Get your heating system checked to insure it will operate at top efficiency.
  • If you have a fireplace and burn wood get your fireplace checked and cleaned.
  • Change the direction of your ceiling fans to help push the heat down.
  • Check out your smoke, fire and carbon dioxide detectors. Make sure batteries are fresh.
