Maid Marion, SC's Champion White Oak. She is a grand White Oak, on Clemson's list of Champion Trees. (largest of her species in the State!) They say she's about 150 years old.... the storm October 4 brought her down. Nature takes care of nature. She was a hot topic recently in the City of Aiken, SC. She was in bad shape and was on the list of trees to be removed. The community was hoping there was a way to save her. One arborist said it was possible, with the assistance of cables attached to other trees, etc... Personally, I don't think that was the best thing for the tree. I'm glad she came down on her own, in her own way, in her own time. It was time. She will be missed by everyone here in this historic little city. RIP Maid Marion.
