Watchung Borough, NJ - 07069 - Real EstateHomes For Sale and Town Information
Watchung is a borough in Somerset County, New Jersey. Watchung was incorporated as a borough in 1926 from portions of North Plainfield Township (Now Green Brook Township). The name Watchung comes from the Lenni Lenape Native Americans and it means 'high hills'. In the 1900s, Watchung was a semi-rural small community of about 3,200 people, but the 1967 Plainfield Riots caused an exodus of the upper-middle class population from the nearby cities to move to the Watchung Hills area into communities such as Watchung. Students in Kindergarten through eighth grade are educated by the Watchung Schools System. High School students in grades 9-12 attend the well known Watchung Hills Regional High School. Unlike many other bedroom communities, Watchung offers large properties, undulating hills, narrow winding roads, abundant wildlife and two lakes: Lake Watchung and Best Lake. (The New York Times). Real Estate in Watchung varies from single-family homes built during the 1950s and 1960s and upscale condominiums to luxury new construction homes on large parcels of land and estate homes with skyline views. Residents benefit from the beautiful scenery, parks and the convenient location. Wedged between New Jersey Route 22 and Interstate 78, Watchung is ideal for those who look for easy access to key destinations such as New York City, Philadelphia and the Jersey Shore.
