Can there ever be a defense for Mauve Carpet?

mauve carpetCan there ever be a defense for still having mauve carpet? I say no.

Lately there seems to be a 'resurgence' in the awful color running through my real estate life.

Case in point:  Sold Mom & Dad a house with the awful stuff in the main areas.  First order of business was to get rid of that stuff immediately upon moving in.  Guess what?  15 years later we had to sell the house (at a discount mind you) because of the awful stuff.  Now it was a wonderful shade of dirty pink instead of the darker color.

Awful Story #2:  Went on a listing presentation where the ladies parents purchased a house 15 years ago with guess what - mauve carpet!  First order was to get rid of it for them also as it wasn't one of their particularly favorite colors.  Now it's time to retire & sell & we have to deal with the mauve carpet!

Why not just replace it with what you truly love and enjoy it!  Most of my examples that I see are where the carpeting needs to be replaced but it's just not done. Once it is, people just love how it looks & makes the house feel but now they're selling.

So they are making it great for the new buyers instead of themselves.

Just doesn't make any sense.  Sometimes it's just a good idea to do it for you!

Lyn Sims - Agreed! In fact I'm dealing with a home with not only mauve but mauve and blue carpet! A true assault on the senses. No one and I really do mean NO ONE is asking this Realtor to show them houses with mauve carpet. Good post.

The question I would ask it how did it get there in the first place? Obviously someone thought it was a good idea at some point. I am kind of partial to purple though I don't have carpet in my home now so it won't ever be an issue.

Tanya:  I too like purple but this fades out to pink & when worn starts to look grey. It's just awful.

Jeffrey Stevens lol, I remember working with a male buyer where every house I showed him had this carpet color. He said, must be fate ..... he was going to replace it all anyway.

Yes, make the changes while you're still living in the house so that you can enjoy it yourself.  Why wait until you're selling?  Mauve is just an awful color for carpeting ... buyers never find it appealing.

I loved the title of this post it caught my attention; at least, the carpet can be replaced which is good for any home owner or home buyer. Thanks for sharing I hope you have a great day.

My Mom is a little old lady who loves mauve carpet.  Obviously, when we sold her home, it was replaced.

When I purchased my real estate company in the 90s it was country blue and mauve. First order of business was to change it.

Tammy:  Yes I remember the blue & mauve country ducks thing goin' on back then.

Chris Ann:  You know it just didn't wear well & faded horribly.

Bill:  On purpose?

Sally:  It just seems that it would have been better had they lived with new carpet beforehand & enjoyed it before selling.

Pat:  It's all the matching to the carpeting that can be a problem. Most times you have to 'un-mauve' the whole house. Call the color exterminator.

Maureen:  As a stager, you'd know, it's the first that gotta go.

Mauve color carpeting was big in the 90s, I think, along with the white-washed cabinets. I didn't like the look then and I don't like it now. I agree, home owners should change it so they can enjoy it. Carpeting is not that expensive.
