Ran my first 5K yesterday at 55 and I'm alive to tell about it!

Yesterday was a monumental day in the life of Faith LaRosse

 

My family and I have always been quite active- kayaking, camping, hiking. My children and grandchildren are all runners. My husband ran track in school and had always loved it.   Running has never been something that had the slightest bit of appeal to me.  About six months ago, I really gave some thought to why I was interested in just about every other type of outdoor activity  and NOT running. 

It was FEAR.

I realized that what had stopped me over the years was the deep seeded idea that I couldn't do it.  What if I couldn't catch my breath? What if I had a heart attack?? What if... what if...

Then it occurred to me...

What if I DON'T?

Fear wins.

So yesterday I faced my fears and along side my kids (well at least at the beginning of the race, they all finished waay ahead of me!) I completed my first 5K!

Don't let FEAR stop you! 

Fear will no longer hold me back.

Good for you!  I run in the gym on the treadmill now. There was a time I ran miles and miles cross country but at my age (60) I want to be visible if I fall out!

I've never been athletic in any way, but my daughter is a runner and I've been to her marathons. It's quite an accomplishment!

That is fantastic Faith LaRosse . Maybe reading your post will get me to try running again after so many years. I always loved it, and its always nice to be out and about in nature that way.

Thank you so much Barbara!  I have to admit, I've been out shopping for new running clothes and searching for another race.  I believe I may be doing a Spartan Sprint in DC in August.  But honestly the thought is still quite daunting to me at this point.  It truly does make me feel like I can do anything!

you go, girl....if you want to do it badly enought, you can do it....my money's on YOU..... if I can do deadlifts and Russian lifts at 70, you can do whatever you want to do.... be safe....
