Dashrath Manjhi
Thanks for stopping by and taking time out of your day to read my post. My intent is to put a smile on your face. Hopefully you’ll go away with some information you may have forgotten about or did not know. Now sit back and enjoy.
Dashrath was born in Gehlaur, Bihar, British India back in 1934. He ran away from his home at a young age and worked in the coal mines in Dhanbad. When he returned he married Phalguni. As she was bringing his lunch to him one day she slipped and fell. Due to the fall she was injured and it eventually led to her death.
Dashrath was so distraught he vowed to make things better and that is just what he did. Taking nothing more than a hammer and chisel he made a pathway from Atri to Wazirganj. The road he built is is 360-feet-long, 25-feet-deep and in some places 30-feet-wide. It reduced the distance from 55 km to 15 km. it took him 22 years to complete the task. He died in 2007 suffering from gall bladder cancer. He was given a state funeral. For his monumental task he became known as the “Mountain Man”
