social media

Recently we rolled out a new feature that takes social media pictures and it automatically populates into the tenants profile screen.  (This is an option that can be enabled/disabled) But... How do you feel about this?

I have mixed feelings about this honestly.  Someone being able to pull my profile pic and save it. But if I have some of my profile pics settings for public sharing they can possibly be used.    I, like many of you, have an online presence for personal and for business.  But as far as personal social media I like to lock it down with privacy settings as much as possible, but for business as you know our pictures and profiles are all over the place.  I still have some concern about stalkers, not those who just want to check out my personal info to hire me for a job or anything like that.  I mean real crazy weirdos!  You can find so much stuff about people now-a-days as long as you know how or what to search.  In fact, it wasn't too long ago I helped my mom find the address and phone number of a friend from the past.   We were able to find them within minutes.

I remember when I was in kindergarten my mother use to drill in our heads how important it was not to share information with strangers.  Now, we do not necessarily have to share it anymore, it is readily given to them online.

What are some of your online concerns?

Good Morning Kathryn - there are two concerns.  Employment Law and Fair Housing Laws.  You need to use with caution.  You inspired me to write a blog of how this can bite employers and real estate.

Hello Kathryn

For Vegas Bob, well ... I have been throwing so much information out there for exposure, I really don't care. Nobody really knows where I am, what city, home, etc.

Now if the Fed's wanted to pin me down for some reason they could do it through my phone, and I have nothing to hide from them.

Around 20 years ago Vegas Bob and Robert Swetz didn't even exist. I had no credit cards, no cell phone and no residence, my drivers license had a PO Box for an address. A friend of mine that sold real estate ran my name and did a credit check, he was shocked because nothing showed up he said I didn't exist.

But now everything has changed and there will come a day when I retire, live in a quite small town or city and completely unplug from Social Media, the grid and become unknown again

Even though my material is all over the web, I like to be a man of mystery!

I known someone who stayed off the grid until he was almost 40 then he decided to go to work.  I like your style here today, gone tomorrow =)

But we do not want you to go away anytime soon...so get back to work! =)

Good evening Kathryn S. , I'm with you on the personal stuff.    If they are going to get information, I'll let them work for it, rather than just giving it to them.

I agree 100% lock down your personal stuff as much as possible!
