Some days are better than others and then there are days that come and kick you in the teeth. I had one of the later on Friday night and Saturday morning. No hot water. I checked the hot water heater in my basement, and there weren't leaks or a flood. Then I checked the circuit breakers and turned them on and off. Nothing. I have no plumber I use and had no one to call except my main contractor. I left a message Friday night and then called again yesterday morning after 8AM.
I hate this stuff. It always seem to happen on weekends or in the middle of a storm. When I spoke with my contractor he asked some questions and said he would call me back. About ten minutes later he did call back. He talked me through what to do. There were closed plates on my water heater. I was directed to open the top one. When I did there was a fiberglass cover behind which was a red button which apparently re-set the heating. I had already opened this but never would have removed the covering or pressed anything without direction. Thirty minutes later, I had hot water.
Had I reached a plumber I didn't know, I'm sure it would have resulted in a big charge or worse. My contractor is expensive, skilled and kind. His call to me saved me continuing stress, money and inconvenience. Loyalty pays. I am very grateful.
