Why I Became a Realtor

By
Real Estate Agent with AgentOwned Realty

When we decided okay we are really doing this, we are really moving our family to a new state where we only know less than a handful of people. It seemed ludicrous and on top of that we only went to Mount Pleasant one time but I knew it was where we were supposed to be.  This was where I wanted to raise my children and be at the beach as much as possible!

The reason why we moved had nothing to do with work, family or friends.  It had to do with  quality of life. We were working so hard we weren't enjoying life to the fullest. Day in and day out same routine and grinding to make money to just get by.  My husband and I both worked two jobs and our daughter was in daycare full time. I feel like I barely got to see her only 1 hour in the morning and 2 hours after daycare before bed. Is this what life is about? I didn't believe so. I kept thinking back to 5 years ago when I visited Mt Pleasant I fell in love!  I fell in love with the kindness people had, beauty of the houses, kids being outside, no traffic ( which I still don't there there is much), the beaches and people were out enjoying life.   We decided we wanted more and knew what we had to do.

Was it scary leaving friends and family behind? Yes, it was scary very scary! Probably the scariest  and bravest thing I have done.  I remember pulling away from our house the last time crying.  We poured so much love and money into that house to make it ours. We had our two girls and two dogs crammed in the car and off we went...into the unknown.  We had a rental for 8 months and one of our girls was able to get into daycare. That is all we knew we had and we had to make this work, no safety net.  It is crazy to think when you do that big of move you leave behind ( beyond your friends/family) your daily routine, restaurants that know your order when they hear your voice on the phone and your comfort zone.

This is what motivated me to become a realtor especially those relocating.  It was a very emotional time and I remember driving away from MA to SC thinking "okay did we do the right thing, are we crazy, will my kids adjust, will people want to be my friend, what if we hate it??"

I want to help those making that transition and help them find their new home! There is nothing better than seeing people get excited about their new home, where they will be making new memories in. It is a whirlwind at times emotionally and mentally exhausting but I have been there myself. I can relate to living out of boxes, living in a rental, begging your neighbors to take you under their wing, getting lost going to the grocery store, realizing they dont sell Cain's mayonaise,  and having to go to Starbucks because there isn't a close Dunkin Donuts.   What I did have was an amazing realtor that comforted us and made the process exciting and not scary.  That is why I love real estate and helping people find their home.  Moving is not easy regardless if it is in or out of state and if you have someone by your side it is actually quite fun!  And yes, I played sappy music while writing this blog, I suggest you do the same while reading it.

I can now say it was the best decision we have ever made.  If you are thinking of relocating to South Carolina, please give me a call I would love to discuss! I can be reached at marthe@agentownedrealty.com or 917-325-8033
