With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to share a little about a group very near and dear to me. I volunteer for a non-profit organization "Casting for Recovery". As a survivor myself, I went on a similar retreat further north in 2002. The concept is to have 14 survivors spend the weekend together, at no cost to them, and learn to fly fish as well as have be able to talk with other survivors. There is a wellness facilitator and a nurse on staff to help with the evening group sessions. We have been holding the South Jersey Retreat in Ocean City and more recently in Sea Isle City since 2009. The last day they head out to try out what they learned one-on-one with an area fly fishing club. That's when you can hear the women make noise when they catch a fish for the first time.
