I’m Thankful for the Friendships in our ActiveRain Community
Debbie Reynolds is sponsoring a 10-day Thanksgiving Post Challenge from today through Thanksgiving Day, an encouragement to share the things we are thankful and why! The community of ActiveRain is certainly one of those things.
I had no idea what to expect when I first joined ActiveRain, nor did I even consider the breadth and depth of the friendships I would develop as a result, or that making friends would even happen.
The value of blogging became evident very quickly, but it didn’t take long to realize how powerful these relationships could and would become, and how important they would be in so many ways over the years.
I still remember my first big social media event in Long Beach where I got to meet a couple dozen people from AR that I considered friends…in person! And other gatherings have revealed, over and over, the joy of these friendships forged online with bloggers from around the country.
“The greatest gift of life is friendship, and I have received it.”
~ Hubert H. Humphrey ~
Indeed, it was a complete surprise one could develop amazing friendships with people you meet in an online community without needing a face to face interaction. And those friendships become even more special upon meeting each other and realizing the bond that has been created. Anyone who has met up with an ActiveRain friend or attended a meet-up can testify to this.
It’s hard to explain the power of these friendships to those outside of AR who have not, unfortunately, experienced them, or perhaps have had experiences here that were less than friendly. Yes, there are those issues that rear their ugly heads from time to time, but the true friendships endure no matter what happens.
True, Rainers are here for many different reasons, many of them business-related, and not just to make friends. But while our learning on AR comes from those who are here – answers to questions, solutions for problems in our transactions, marketing ideas, ways to grow our business, ideas for business plans, how to improve blogging and our photos, and even many life lessons – it is the emotional bonds between friends that transcend it all.
I’m incredibly grateful for the many people I’ve met here that I consider friends, those I could call or email for help, an ear, or just to talk. Those I've met in person, and those I've yet to meet, or may not. And in turn those I can reach out to when help is needed, or “just because.”
“Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking along in the light.”
