Why I buy old photos.......

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Referral Group Incorporated

I freely admit to being an old soul. I was as a child and still am. I also like old things and photography is a big hobby of mine. So it isn't a surprise to anyone who knows me even a little that I have a lot of old photos: mostly family and family friends, but not entirely.

I see old photos for sale at garage sales and antique places all the time. I often wonder why they aren't prized in someones home. Makes me sad. And so when I see a picture of someone who moves me or whose eyes speak to me, I take them home. No one should be forgotten.

As we have been sorting our photos we have kept all those with people and often discard those without.

I love this so much Sheila! No one should be forgotten.

I have a photo box with old pictures.. it is not only more fun to look at these than at pics on my computer or phone but it is much more sentimental. You actually feel on a much deeper level when you hold the photographs in your hand.

Well, Sheila, when you start making up stories about the people in the old photos and imagining their relationships, you're in trouble then. Uh, oh, probably too late. :)

Hi Sheila- I love what you said.  It's hard for me to get rid of photos of people because I feel like I'm dismissing them. I too am in the process of digitizing my photos.

I am also fond of old photos.  I don't collect anymore than those I already have from my family.  Sadly, I have century old photos of family members to a husband my mother had after my dad died.  He was estranged from his regular family, and I have no way of finding them to return them.  The last name is "Olson," simply too common a name.

I suppose old pictures are no different than artworks of people we don't know.

Many years ago, when my children were small, I made friends with my son's friend's mother. We became best friends and spent many days of the week together for several years.

She had a sofa table in her living room that was covered with framed antique photos. I was so intrigued. I wanted to know all about these people. I thought they were family. Turns out not one was related to her. All purchased from flea markets and yard sales. LOL

I copied my friends decor at my house...every photo I displayed, however, was a family member.

Over the years I've come to prefer a cleaner. less cluttered, look and have very few photos displayed.

Hi Sharon. What a story. I try and keep the coffee tables neat. That said I have shelves and niches in many places and there is art and or pictures there, everywhere. I think I would like your old friend too. TY      Sheila

Morning Sheila.

I also like old photos, they tell a history that in most cases, are long forgotten.
