STRESS GOTCHA? GOALS TO HELP ME WORK THROUGH IT

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors

STRESS GOTCHA? GOALS HAVE TO HELP. Life is so full of every day stresses, that sometimes we feel as though we will explode. Well, as "Frankie" said so wonderfully, "That's Life, That's What People Say" . However...

ExplosionWhile we love our family, our friends, even our real estate business, working and trying to make people happy what feels like 24 hours a day sometimes gets to us and we need to step back and take a look at ourselves and then do the things we keep promising ourselves we will do, but never seem to. There have been many posts on stress relief and personal goals; this is just my solution to find a little harmony in today's hectic world for myself.

Last year my husband and I bought a fixer-upper cottage on the Black River in Cheboygan. When you live in northern Michigan you want to live somewhat secluded in the woods or you would like to live on the water. We have lived in/on both two or three homes ago since we moved north, and now, it's back to the water. I have a little secret....this cottage was not completely my idea, shhhh quiet now; but we have it. Never-the-less, it has added to the stress. Remodeling, we have been there and done that more times than I care to remember, and we're not as young as we once were, but he's happy, then so am I.

We have been working on the "cottage", our permanent residence someday, when it's done, and believe me, we are a very long way from being done; we're talking down to the studs. Now that summer is almost here, and when we take a break from the hammering and the pounding (I am chief supervisor) we look forward to relaxing at the river's edge, having a cool beverage and watching the carefree population in their pontoons (which is a purchase we want to make) and the lucky souls paddling up the river in their kayaks.

GOAL TIME.

NUMBER 1 : I want a kayak! Yes I do. But, can I handle it? Will it roll over with me stuck inside like a pea in a pod, or a piggy in a blanket? It looks so easy, gliding along the shimmering waters so peaceful. Ah, I feel relaxed just dreaming about it. This is a long-time goal. I have been reading on the Internet and I know that I don't really have to buy a kayak where I would have to sit down inside and then it seals around you, too scary. Aren't there little seats where you sit higher? Any kayakers out there with words of wisdom? I am pumped now, and will complete this goal this summer. When I do, you will hear and see about it....

NUMBER 2: I am a photographer wanna be. I love being out in the beautiful area that I live in looking for the perfect shot. I have always wanted to take a class, never have, just something else that fell by the wayside. So, I plan on seeking out and registering for a class this fall and next summer I will have those great shots of me trying to stay up-right in my new kayak with a huge smile on my face.

Time is a thief, it is stealing from you and from me. Get out there and "take beautiful pictures and paddle up the river" of your dreams. With our stress managed, everyone we come in contact with will also reap the benefits. You'll live better, love better, and work better.

Come North, Cheboygan Michigan has oodles of lakes and rivers within a couple of miles of each other for you to enjoy and satisfy your goals.

MEET YOU ON THE RIVER!!

Hi Jacqueline just a note to say hello - enjoyed your post very much - How fun it will that be to live on the water and from the photos it looks like a peaceful place.

Sorry I can't help on the kayak questions, I've never been in one but I have been out rowing and will share that I usually wish we hadn't gone so far out when it was time to head back to shore. :) That might be a lot easier in a kayak with solo control and it sounds like fun!

I'll stay tuned to see how you do and thanks for sharing! Cheers

Teresa, Thank you for commenting and adding me as an Associate. I will keep in mind that I shouldn't go too far, may have to head to shore and walk back.....and I don't know what would be worse. I have a friend that has kayaks and I'll have her help me out. This could open a whole new world, or I will give it up as soon as I started.

Duane, Ya, chuckle, chuckle...he loves it. We use to live on Mullett Lake, re-did that home and sold it (should have kept it), this better be the last one.

Kevin, Thank you. With our weather, take a nice day when we can get it. It has been interesting in the weather dept. lately.
