Yesterday, I left Egypt and returned home after ten glorious days of learning about, and reveling in a culture not unlike my own. I hadn't thought much about going to Egypt but when this opportunity presented itself I jumped on it and I am so glad I did.
My guide, Neveen, was extraordinary: knowledgeable, forthcoming, kind and very able to make us all feel cherished and heard. The scenery itself is beyond explanation or description. I marveled the entire time at the ingenuity of people born so very long ago to build a civilization that in many ways is so much more focused than ours is today. There was so such to see but even more to contemplate.
Visiting far away and unusual places is a gift few get to experience. It is not without peril or hardship but in my own experience it is always worth it. Egypt teaches us that man is able to think of, and create things beyond normal boundaries. Egypt teaches us that people can and do overcome obstacles with perseverance and fortitude. And finally Egypt teaches us that stretching boundaries is almost always possible.
