Funny thing is that I have been swamped with 2 things this week. One is a major real estate seminar here in Las Vegas. The other is stepping into a leadership team at a recovery program in my church. The odd part is seeing how each of them had a large number of people seeking validation to find their own worth. Even at the seminar - people there not to learn or grow but to impress others in the breaks (like wild animals strutting their feathers or showing off their springtime mating colors, LOL). When we no longer focus on getting approval, that is when we really take out power back.
It is true that many of us do seek validation outside of ourselves...thanks for being a leader!~

When we no longer focus on getting approval, that is when we really take out power back. This is where I have been as long as I can remember Rocky Dickerson . It's made me popular in some circles and despised in others including in the RE business. I am Christ centered in all things, especially business ethics which some agents and brokers could not stand.
My takeaways: how we develop a sense of self-worth differs for each individual. We gain self-assurance with age and experience, and we can choose to "march to our own drums" or stay connected and continue to seek social approval. The latter is affected by many factors such as culture, early development as a child, and last but not least, influence and inspiration within oneself. Thank you, Rocky Dickerson for this important "food for thought!"
Hi Rocky- it has always been my wish that every child is given a healthy dose of self-worth...feeling good about themselves not because of any external factors.
Brian this is not an issue for me, in fact I may be a little to much in the other direction.
Great points Rocky, I keep telling Diane when she does or does not want to hear it...."they do not pay my vet bills or any bills" so I do not need their approval.... so with that said I am very comfortable in my own skin and do not need praises or accolades, but when they do come I am appreciative and grateful for them:)Endre
Your words are true and no amount of approval from others will ever be more beneficial than our own approval of ourselves.
