Safety Tips To Get Your Kids Through The Rest Of The Jackson Summer

Jackson , Mississippi residents do so much to keep our kids safe from all harm.  We keep our guns and other dangerous weapons under lock and key.  But there is much more to keeping kids safe.  Many parents don't realize this, but the month of July sees the highest jump in trauma visits with toddlers, ages two, three and four, in the ER.

In the toddler stage, it is very important keep your eyes on them at all times.  Toddlers have no perception of danger and will get into anything and everything.   So what do you do when your toddler is invited to a children's party or another function in someone else's household?

You should talk to the other adults and get to know them.  You should find out exactly what your child will be doing while there, and you should know if the other parents are just as safety cautious as you are.  A few questions such as where the cleaning products, firearms, poisons, sharp objects and medications are will let you know just how safety cautious they are.

Another major safety issue is swimming pools.  Over nine hundred kids between the ages of 1 and 14 drown each year.  Most of those drownings are from toddlers.  Swimming pools should have a fence around them with a gate that will lock and all pools should have a designated adult at all times to monitor what is going on in the pool.  It is also a good idea to have at least one adult there at all times who knows CPR and first aid.
