Knock Knock. Who's There? (in this case it was knock, knock, knock)

Did you hear that?   Sounded like a knock on a door.  A wooden door.  Right upstairs above us.    Wait - did that door just open?  Do you hear work boots?  Was that another knock?  What is going on up there?    Yes - this is bits 'n pieces of an actual conversation my husband and I had about 17 years ago.  (and I remember it like it was yesterday)   What reminded me of this conversation was a blog I just read.  YOU CAN READ IT TOO!! RIGHT HERE :)   Ummm.....let me give y'all a little history. (I'll try to be as brief as possible)

                                         old victorian house

We had just moved into a great big old Victorian home in Milford, Pennsylvania.  It had been converted to apartments, and we lived on the third floor.  We were very excited to be living downtown in this great old house.  Great location - great price :)

We moved in and met the neighbors right away.  All very nice.   Most of them had recently moved in as well.  We had been there just about a week.  It was a Friday night.  Our five year old was sound asleep and we were in the kitchen making a late dinner.  There - out of the blue, we heard it.  Both of us.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.    Three hard loud raps on a solid wood door.  No doubt about it - it was right above our kitchen/hallway threshold.  Right where you would expect the door to be, haha.  Then we heard people come in.  More knocking, more people.   We could hear the chairs being pulled out.  After they sat down the noises were muffled, 'cept for what sounded like the slap of the cards in a poker game.   Friday night was poker night - I guess we had better get used to it.  Not every Friday, thank goodness - I guess they took turns playing at each others places.

                                                                 deck of cards

Why is this so unusual?  People play poker, I know.  We used to play all the time.  It's a lot of fun.  The odd thing about this is that we lived on the third floor.  The TOP of the house.   THERE WAS NOTHING ABOVE US BUT THE ROOF!!!         That is what is so odd, haha.   Eventually the noises from above stopped. It was Very strange - but nothing we couldn't live with, lol.  What got me thinking about that old house is this blog I was just reading.   YOU CAN READ IT TOO - RIGHT HERE!

Now, would we have moved in if we thought we would have a friendly spirit 'living' above  us?   Probably not.   I'm glad we didn't know because it turned out to be a great place :)

Y'all have any stories??  I'd love to hear them.

What a great post! I live in one of the older houses in Aiken, and not only have I heard, smelled, and "felt" them, but I have seen them! Two friends of mine have seen two different ones, and we frequently here the front door slam when it's just us in the house. We also get child size handprints in the carpet usually just after steam cleaning one particular room. (NOTE: The only children I have are of the four legged variety). When I first moved into this house it was very obvious that "something" did not appreciate the inconvienance of my precense. Upon first moving in I didn't really believe too much in the "haunted house" stuff that people would tell, but I got over it and quickly. Everything from blown breakers in a new breaker box to stereos blasting on in the middle of the night  (volume slowly increasing until I could turn it off), strange (sometimes very pleasant, sometimes NOT) odors. Some smelled like flowers or old perfume, sometimes shrimp cooking, sometimes rotten trash. I was at my wits end and losing a good bit of sleep until a friend from out of state who has always claimed to me to have had many interactions like this suggested that I just sit down and lay down the law. So that's what I did. I must say it felt strange at first having this conversation in my living room, but I sat down and simply addressed whatever could hear me that I was staying in the house, and that they may not mean to, but they were frightening me. I then said that I respected that they were there first, but my only intentions were to make the house beautiful and happy and they were to stop trying to communicate with me. I then said "I surround myself with the white light of Christ. Whatever is in this house not of the white light is ordered to leave immediately." All was quiet here for some time. My rest and my sanity returned. I'm not saying that all activity stopped in the house, but the things that I considered annoying stopped. IE: strange odors, electronic issues, blown breakers. I still hear doors slamming every now and again, and while rare, the occasional "siting" by myself and others, but all in all, I love this house, and have made it my home. Thanks again for this post. I am hoping others will share their stories here as well.
