Unbelievable!  Before Hurricane Ike even has a chance to hit Texas, and possibly the oil refineries there, gas prices spiked here in Columbia, gas lines were forming and even gas rationing was reported in Sumter.

Cheaper Than Gas

Tell me they don't raise gas prices at will!  Up $.50 here in the last 24 hours!

Yesterday I watched the price go up 30 cents while in line to get gas, this is crazy.  we are in Sc, not Texas.  They are taking advantage of us.

Oh, I hadn't thought about that.....I knew our "cheap" gas wouldn't last!  I'll be interested to see what it is around here when I go out.

Have a good day!

Do not blame the individual station owners. Talked to a friend this morning who owns a local station and it is the suppliers that go up on the prices. He is already almost out of 87 octane, but can only order more at an inflated price from different suppliers since his normal suppliers are already out. He will just wait until price goes back down before ordering more so he won't get stuck with 1000's of gallons of overpriced fuel to sell at a loss.

Ann - Hope your prices don't move too much.  We're up $1 a gallon some places.

Dan - I know what you mean.

Mark - Good point.  I'm thinking the wholesalers.  Our state's attorney general's office put the state's price-gouging law in to effect at around noon today.  They're getting slammed with calls.  The atty. gen. said the station owners will have to show that wholesale costs triggered the higher prices.  After Hurricane Katrina several SC stations were charged with gouging.

Remember they may be out of gas in a few days and won't make any money but if they stay in gas wiill they lower the price enough to give it back?  I doubt it very much.

Charlie, it is amazing, gas has gone up $1.20 a gallon from last night to this afternoon.  The lines here were so long rationing and shouting matches were common.  I went to 6 stations this afternoon before I could find gas.  With all of this, thanks for the laugh.

I think I paid $3.56 for regular Tuesday afternoon.....last night our news was crazy!  Gas stations running out of gas, and prices all over the place.  One was almost a dollar more than I just paid, and that is a station that sometimes has the lowest price on this side of town.  I can't figure than one out at all.  I wonder how long I can make the gas I have left last?  I hope the insanity settles at least a little!

That's good finding humor in it because otherwise, we'd go insane trying to make rhyme or reason out of the "whys."

Charlie - My hubby is becomming a hermit since he retired he says there is no reason to buy gas at todays prices and will only put $20 in at a time if the prices are going up when he needs gas and only fills his tank when they come back down.

Funny cartoons, Charlie, especially the tow truck!  My husband laughs at me, I never fill up anymore, just get 1/2 tank at a time, seems cheaper.  :)

Thanks Kathy and Va.!  Maybe you two should be on 'Wife Swap' on TV.  Anything to make it seem cheaper works for me.
