Website up and Running!

For a tech challenged 50 yr old like me, publishing a website is a major accomplishment.  I know there are some out there who can do it in their sleep, but not me!

I used a simple  pre-made template with www.vistaprint.com and voila... a baby website is born.  It may not be much, but it addresses the client's needs, what I offer them, my contact info, before and after pics, etc.  It even matches my business cards!!  I was impressed with myself!

I am open to constructive criticism, so take a look and let me know what you think.  As I learn more, I'm sure it will morph into something much more, but for now it gets me out there on the world wide web!

Jo, you did a nice job with your website and kudos for doing it your self. I just paid a fortune for my portfolio page alone! May I make one ... okay, two suggestions & point out one typo?

The first is to do your level best to get your before and after photo from the same angle & viewpoint so the difference is clear. It took me awhile to get the hang of this, and honestly, I still don't get it perfect every time.  I had to think where I was most likely to put things and then stand where I thought would be the best view point for the after photos in order to get before photos from the same spot. Your before & afters are a little tricky to follow.

Typo on first page. Under section of sell faster & for more money, first sentence 'you' should be 'your'.

Photo of you on "about" page. Crop it to get rid of the name tag thing hanging on your blouse. Beautiful face & smile!!!

Thanks for the critique.  That's the kind of tips I need from more experienced stagers/designers.  I do realize I need to upgrade my camera to one with wide angle.  I will correct the typos and work on the picture taking.  Cropping the pic of me is a great idea!

Thanks again.

Jo,  I looked at your new website and the only thing that I could see that I would suggested is that your  before and after shots should be of the same things - same angle, same part of the room, etc. That way people looking at your website and photos can really see the difference that staging makes. I just noticed that someone already left this same comment.

Glad the tips were helpful. I can't tell you how much I've been pestering my own mentor to examine my website as I revamp it. Another set of eyes is always helpful. Congrats on getting it up and running!

Jo, congratulations on your new website!  When I put mine togehter I was lucky enough to have a friend in the PR business take a look at it and her suggestion is to use the photos that show the most dramatic changes--even if that means fewer photos.  When you are first starting it's hard but ask some friends if you can stage their houses for photo ops.  Good Luck!

Congratulations for getting your site up and running Jo. There are a million things you can do to market yourself as a stager but I think the most important one is your web site and web presence. It's where people find you and how they evaluate your busness before they call you. So you've made a great start and just keep going and improving as you learn, as we all do!

This is an excellent post. Thank you for sharing this wonderful article. One thing that will help with ads and promotions will be creating posters and fliers and adding  stickers from https://estickers.com.au which has a wide variety of custom stickers that will help with the promotion.
