Neither work nor play, yet it is a large focus of my volunteer efforts both with Franciscans and the Warming Shelter. Have had the opportunity to become good friends with many dozens of homeless and marginalized people in our community.
Heading down to Franciscans Downtown in a few minutes, always rewarding to help these people and keep this operation going.

We're in a metropolitan region (Charlotte) so, of course we have homelessness but, it's not prevalent.
I can't say that I'm oblivious to it at all when I do see it but, I will say that I'm always shocked when I'm volunteering to help them and see how many there really are, Richie Alan Naggar.

There is homelessness here, yes. I tend to think it is less than in more major metropolitan areas, however. We have some very good resources & shelters for homeless folks around here. -Kasey

No. However, there are major issues relating to homeless people in the DC Metro Area. There have been many articles in The Washington Post relating to these continuing issues.

Richie Alan Naggar Its not really a big issue until the County makes it one. A couple of years ago they broke up a homeless camp to build a museum. The museum isn't built yet. They could have let them transition to another location instead of booting them out overnight.

The professional homeless vs. the Truly homeless. Know how to tell the difference before giving financial or moral support.

It's obvious, and creates a variety of issues. Recently, state of MD evicted a homeless camp in Frederick MD. They will just scatter and find a new spot to set up. Even though there are services and organizations that can help, many of the homeless prefer to be outdoors. There are more than people think, because they are good at blending in, and they move locations on a regular basis. Right now I can think of 2 homeless camps near brunswick MD, one in Frederick, a lady living in her car, and a man who sleeps behind one of those cinder block walls that you see built around dumpsters. I'm sure I could think of several more if i tried.

Yes, and I am on the Community Action Inc Board of Directors in my area. Appointed by my State Rep. CAI's mission includes homelessness.

It apparently is in the Charlotte metro area, but I don't live or typically sell in the areas where this is prevalent... so I really don't see it very much.

No.
Expansion. The city leaders have made poverty, evidenced by homelessness, against the law. They round them up and literally take them to a warehouse adjacent to the county jail. These reminders of a failing society are offered the 'Go to Jail or Go to the Warehouse' option.
The heartless/souless city leaders believe out of sight; out of mind.
PS: these human beings we wish not to see have fewer protections than an animal. Most of these most unfortunate humans choose JAIL because when released they are given a bus ticket so the can go back downtown. If they choose Warehouse, they will be stuck in a place surround by jailhouse industries and miles and miles and miles from any place that can help them. (food)
Solutions vary DRAMATICLY depending of if they are newly homeless or, after a month of 'no address' have become unemloyable.

True homelessness, no... so long as they don't start any fires are rob any houses. Pan handlers, now that's out of control! Lot of fake homeless begging for money and our POS city council won't do anything about it. Bunch of frickin' pansies!

I see where you are heading.
It is also prevalent in exclusive neighborhoods. I just came back from visiting family in the Bay area and it is all over.

Yes, we see it everywhere in Florida, particularly in the Winter months. In San Diego, we see it right down the street when the huddled masses exit the local golf course early in the morning.

I live in an urban area and homelessness is around us even if we can't always "see" it. There's no simple solution.

I do not think so.... the only homeless I see are on freeway exits and some sleeping on the street benches. But it is different in other cities of L.A.

On any given day I pass several card carrying homeless asking for financial help. I know of several places where they stay and commune. I have had friends tell me that they have tried to offer them work or a place to stay and all they wanted was a handout. So that tells me it may be a personal choice. It is a very small percentage of the population and there are multiple organizations in place willing to help with hosing assistance.

Being in rural Texas, there's none that are apparent like in the bigger cities where they tend to congregate.
I know Dallas in particular has a big problem with it and has tried to address it to the satisfaction of the homeless and the businesses they are impacting.

There is homelessness here but there also is a great amount of resources and help for those looking for it. What is left is substance abuse and mental health where resources are short but assistance is growing.
