This great swimming area is located on Shepherd Rd. and it's only a few blocks to downtown Washougal. The beach is usually full of families, teens and children playing in the Washougal River. The river kinda splits there and there is an "island" there where children play in the "rapids." In the summer, the Sandy Swimming Hole is brimming with people seeking sun, sand and fun.
There is a community concrete deck that is nice and wide and has some picnic tables for people to relax around (0 comments)
Washougal River and Territorial Views. This is a little video clip of the Washougal River in Washougal, WA that reminds me a lot of driving through Denver, Colorado. You can briefly see the winding Washougal River below in the trees. The flat level spot below is a community park which is part of a neighborhood up on 1st Ave. The neighborhood has many gorgeous homes tucked into the trees--most of them you can't even see because they are off the road and back up above. Many of them are still waterfront but the actual waterfront is barely (0 comments)
Our home and front yard on the Washougal River isn't very big, but it's paradise to me. It's not expensively landscaped but it holds tons of fond memories. We invite our friends and family over on sunny days and everyone has a good time well into the evening when we gather to talk around our little fire pit. The whimsical yellow and green bench you see in the picture was made by my husband Mike. He can build just about anything.
Our grandkids learned alot about swimming in the river (2 comments)

Most people only think of the Washougal River as swimming, kayaking, fishing, floating and rafting and such. But the river has many moods and many surprises!
