florida: Have housing prices hit bottom in Manatee County? - 01/08/08 01:48 AM
An article in today's Herald Tribune seems to point towards that.  It appears our market has stabalized and is doing fairly well compared to many others in Florida, according to the article.
"Florida's best known economist says the Sarasota-Manatee residential property market bottomed out in September-October and has now stabilized in both price and volume.""Hank Fishkind predicts flat prices for both counties through 2010, as the region chews through excess inventories of new houses and condominiums."
"I'm not seeing any major price declines, and I think volume has stabilized, Fishkind said."

Lizards are everywhere here.  Kinda like ants, everywhere you look, you are bound to see them.  They crawl up everything, including people!
I was shopping the other day and was at the checkout lane where there was a group of people in front of the lane I was in, talking to one another.  They appeared to be waiting for the rest of their group to finish shopping before they left.

florida: Condo sales are UP 10% from this time last year in Bradenton-Sarasota - 11/29/07 02:24 AM
I was reading the newspaper online this morning, and was happy to see that condo sales have increased 10% from this time last year in the Bradenton-Sarasota market.
It is mentioned in the above article about 3/4 of the way through the article.  Condominium results in Sarasota-Bradenton for both the third quarter and for October are signs of improvement.Last month, condo sales were up 10 percent, from 193 to 212. The median price was down slightly, from $226,000 to $224,000."That's very good news for us, suggestive of a bottoming out in that segment of our market."

This is just a reminder that the Florida Sales Tax Holiday starts today.  The holiday goes from today until midnight August 13th. 
During the next 10 days would be a good time to get all of your school shopping done for your kids.  Stock up on all the school supplies and school clothes for your kids now while also saving some money at the same time.

florida: Florida Property Insurance: Are We Ever Going To See Any Relief? - 08/04/07 12:23 AM
Another bill was introduced to Congress on Friday to reduce the costs of insurance premiums for homeowners in disaster-prone areas .  But really, how far will this bill go?  It's failed before, so are they really going to pass it this time around? 
"The bill would create a voluntary, market-driven national catastrophic fund designed to lower the cost of insuring homes in areas where the threat of hurricanes, floods and earthquakes have sent premiums skyrocketing. It also would make federal loans available to assist in rebuilding states hit by natural disasters."

florida: Manatee County Market Stats 2006 vs 2007 For The First Half Of The Year - 07/14/07 04:38 AM
Here are the Manatee County Stats for the first half of the year for 2006 compared to 2007.  Average days on market are definitely longer, not too unrealistic though.  Days on market seems to be around 90-120 days which is typical of a more normal market.
Prices have come down compared to last year.  Hopefully things will start to pick up again in August or September.  We shall see!!
January 1st thru June 30th.

Ok, I know most of you remember that commercial with the little old lady in a fast food restaurant and when she gets the burger, it's a great big bun with hardly any meat on it and she yells out "Where's the beef?"
She was expecting a big burger with a big meat patty and extras like lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, cheese, mustard & ketchup and instead she was disappointed to have a big fluffy bun and barely any meat.  Nothing else!

Since I like watching those TV shows where they compare homes throughout the U.S. to see what type of home you can get for a certain dollar amount, I'm curious as to what kind of home or property someone can buy for $300,000 in your area.
