activerain challenge: Zooming In On Kindness - 12/15/23 03:40 PM
"Sharing knowledge and experience is like a lantern, lighting the path for others to follow."  -Carol Williams
Acts of Kindness come in many forms and from some unexpected places. Our weekly Zoom meetings are one example of acts of kindness by those willing to volunteer their time to share their knowledge based on personal and professional experience.
In 2020, shortly after COVID-19 shut down the world, Marie Story suggested we start a weekly "coffee klatch" via Zoom as a way of staying connected. These sessions quickly evolved into an amazing journey into the minds of our ActiveRain members, capturing their vast experiences. … (24 comments)

activerain challenge: Beyond the Screen: Unexpected Blessings - 11/21/23 07:12 AM
"Being a member of ActiveRain is like being invited to dinner, and the next thing you know you're a member of the family."  -Carol Williams

Back in 2006, when I stumbled into ActiveRain, I took a leap into the unknown by accepting the invitation to "sign up". It was like accepting a mystery dinner invitation without knowing what was on the menu or who would be there.  Little did I know, this was setting the table for far more than participation on a social network - it would turn into a family feast.
In those early days, I was the typical lurker, quietly … (32 comments)

activerain challenge: Reflecting on Faith Beyond Circumstance - 11/09/23 03:10 PM
"In faith, there is enough light for those who want to believe and enough shadows to blind those who don't."  -Blaise Pascal
With temperatures falling during this month focused on Thanks, I find myself wrapped in the warmth of my countless blessings. Topping them all, as ever, are the special people in my life.  I wrote about those last week.
Besides the people in my life, what holds me together and pushes me forward when I face challenges?
Faith.
Faith is my anchor, not to any church, but to something greater than myself. Faith that I have the necessary skills and will … (21 comments)

"Believe me. The more you know about me, the weirder you will think I am."
-Carol Williams
    1.  We all go on vacation to get away from it all and have a great time, but I want to know, what vacation day was your worst?
I rarely have a bad day and certainly not on vacation.  I have had some "interesting" experiences, but that wasn't the question. 😉
    2.  What would be your bucket list vacation or, if you have already taken it, tell us about it?  Pictures encouraged.
My husband and I went to Palm Springs, California every winter to play … (52 comments)

activerain challenge: Carol Williams: My Journey Into the World of Work - 02/22/22 08:03 AM
My foray into earning money and money management started when I was 13 years old. The summer of 1963 was my last summer of "freedom" during the school break. By the summer of 1964, we were living with an Aunt & Uncle and they decided it was time for my brother and me to learn how to work and some money management skills.
We were living in the country, in the Columbia Gorge east of Portland.  Picking berries was one of the ways for kids to earn money in those days. As I recall, that first summer, we picked strawberries. I … (36 comments)

activerain challenge: 2021: 10 Days of Thanksgiving (Day 9) - 11/24/21 09:58 AM
"Blueberries ranked number one in antioxidant health benefits in a comparison with more than 40 fresh fruits and vegetables."
When my brother Clair and I were teenagers, we worked for a berry farmer named Mr. Larson. This was so we had spending money during the school year. We lived out in the country so this was THE job most kids had in the summer to earn extra money.
All our "necessities" were provided for, but if we wanted anything extra we had to pay for it ourselves. It's interesting to look back now and realize every purchase I made was related to … (26 comments)
