weather: Where do Birds go When it Rains? - 01/24/10 09:27 AM

I'm no youngster...and I have no answer for this.  I've talked to alot of people about the likelihood of where birds go when it rains and everyone has a different perspective.
Kids aren't sure about it...
Some people have said that birds fly away to a dry area where it isn't raining....but what if the whole region is experiencing rain?  Others have said that birds hide in trees when it's raining, but I've never seen them there.  Someone told me that birds hide in the eaves of homes when it's raining but I've never seen that either.
I'm not kidding … (11 comments)

weather: Hello...it's me again - Southern California - 01/18/10 01:05 PM

Hi...remember me? I'm the Great State of California and you always hear about me on the news.
Forget the fact that I'm broke, you usually hear me referred to along the lines of severe drought, wildfires, heavy rain and then mudslides / landslides, if we ever get our winter rains.
Guess what?  We have our multi-year drought, we had our fires this past autumn and now it's winter...so here it comes!  You'll read and hear about us again - because a series of winter rain storms is arriving and we'll have those mudslides and landslides.
Please keep us in your most … (12 comments)

weather: Shopping in a snowstorm? - 12/20/09 03:35 PM
The snowstorm that has hit New England has closed roads, delayed flights, and closed businesses and schools. Snowfall totals are up to 20 inches.

Will the snow stop holiday shoppers from being able to cross last minute gifts off their lists? So far the answer may be yes. Super Satuday wasn't so super on the East Coast. Some economists are predicting that this pause in shopping will have an impact on the economic recovery.
Considering we had 70 degree weather in California this weekend, I'm not one to talk. So for all of you on the East Coast, I'd love … (5 comments)

weather: Women...Looking for a Healthy Place to Live? - 11/27/08 06:40 AM

Women looking for a healthy place to live should consider Orange County, CA or "The OC" as we call it, which is ranked 8th healthiest in the USA by SELF magazine.  And "The OC" is ranked number 1 for Fitness.
The news and the publication hit the streets on Tuesday of this week.
Orange County female residents get nearly a third more vigorous exercise than the average woman does, says the survey from SELF.  The pay-off is one of the lowest obesity rates anywhere.
Our great weather lends itself to more outdoor life and as a result, more exercise.  We stay … (3 comments)

weather: October...Greatest Weather in Forever - 11/05/08 04:20 PM

OK...we all know the many reasons why people move to Orange County in Southern California.  Weather stands out as a primary reason.  Do we have 4 seasons?  Nope!  How about 2 seasons?  Not really!  It's more like 1 season with cooler nights and a bit of rain in December, January and February.  Well...it could be called 2 seasons if day was one season and night was another season.
This October was picture perfect.  A cool day was about 78 degrees and a warm day was about 98 degrees.  It was dry but not too dry, which prevented a lot of wildfires.  The … (3 comments)

weather: Analysts Say...No Pain for Orange County - 08/31/08 12:10 PM
Orange County California...population over 3 million.  Home to many and also a technology, research & development and financial hub for not only this state but the entire western region.
Remember our GDP is 35th in the world when compared to all countries...that is countries not counties.
Well, analysts say Orange County is not headed for the same type of pain that Silicon Valley endured when Internet companies crashed in the early 2000's.  Silicon Valley was effectively taken down by that bust.  And Orange County...we lost our share of jobs in the financial sector this last year and a half but overall we have a … (0 comments)

weather: Laguna Niguel...Going to Speed and Saving on Fuel - 07/30/08 05:24 PM
My beloved city of Laguna Niguel in the great OC has found a way to get faster and save fuel.  The City Council has approved the order for 2 new motorcycles for our Police Department.
You know how large the engines are in police cars...they roar! And they suck up fuel at an outrageous rate.  Well, we have near perfect weather here, so why not a couple of motorcycles? Why not a few motorcycles for that matter?  Cuts down on gas consumption and gets police out there for speedy response.
Nice work Laguna Niguel!
And thank you for making me Your Orange County Real … (0 comments)

weather: OC is #1 in Internet Access... - 03/26/08 07:20 AM
The 2007 Community Indicators report named the OC as #1 in Internet access.
The report shows a picture of adults with access to the Internet, high tech diversity and patenents and investments.
Internet Access: The portion of OC's adults with access to the Internet rose to 79 percent.  The figure had been 70 percent in the first half of this decade when OC trailed Seattle, Austin and San Francisco by five percentage points.  Now OC leads Seattle and Austin by 2 percent and San Francisco by 3 percent.
High Tech Diversity:  The OC has 18 high tech sectors with employment above the national average.
