Rent price increases have slowed down overall, but growth is still slightly higher than pre-pandemic rates, according to the latest data from the real estate website Zillow’s rental report for July 2023 which was released on Aug. 7.

After seven consecutive months of below-average monthly growth, the July increase is slightly higher than the 0.4% typical monthly increase averaged over the past July from 2015 to 2019. But when compared with July in both 2021 and 2022, the pace of growth in July 2023 is still slower.

The average rate on a 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage rose for the third week in a row, up from last week’s average 6.90%. A year ago, it was 5.22%. By Alex Veiga WASHINGTON (AP) – The average long-term U.S. mortgage rate rose this week to just under 7%, the latest setback for would-be homebuyers already facing affordability challenges due to a housing market limited by a shortage of homes for sale.
Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac said Thursday that the average rate on the benchmark 30-year home loan rose to 6.96% from 6.90% last week. A year ago, the rate averaged 5.22%.
